Trinity River White Water Kayaking Trip, August 2002

Hell Hole: A difficult approach through a chute, leading to an 8-foot waterfall, ends in a frothy, white turbulent pool.

Trinity River Hell Hole 1In the chute, at the lip of the falls. Note bow of kayak casts a shadow about one foot long over the lip of the falls

Trinity River Hell Hole 2Dropping over the falls. My right blade hovers over a submerged boulder. Despite appearance, it is not a look of sheer terror or panic on my face.
Trinity River Hell Hole 3Landing, going all the way under water, and popping out of the turbulence UPRIGHT for a moment. The next second I rolled over and did a bow rescue to come upright. YAY ME!
Yet another day at my job

I started refereeing soccer at the age of 14, in 1981. I got tired of referees who didn't protect me as a goalkeeper, and rather than whine about it, I decided to become a referee myself and try to do a better job. After 15 years of refereeing the only game that really matters, I earned my State 1 Referee USSF badge in September 1996.

In addition to being a State Referee, I am a Referee Instructor (since 1991) and a State Referee Assessor (since 1990).
